AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men’s lacrosse began its eighth-annual “Turkey Drive” to benefit the Amherst Survival Center on Thursday, a partnership with the Big Y grocery store in Amherst with the goal of providing as many Thanksgiving turkeys and as much non-perishable canned goods and foods as possible.
Donations will be accepted through Fri., Nov. 8 and all proceeds will be used to purchase items from Big Y for immediate delivery to the Amherst Survival Center, a North Amherst-based family support organization that serves approximately 6,000 residents of Franklin and Hampshire counties each year.
Donation checks should be made payable to “Big Y” and mailed to:

During the last seven years, UMass men’s lacrosse donated more than 550 turkeys and thousands of pounds of canned goods to the Amherst Survival Center. The annual Amherst Survival Center Turkey Drive is one of two fundraising initiatives UMass men’s lacrosse undertakes each fall semester. The team recently raised more than $15,000 during it’s eighth season partnering with the Vs. Cancer Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer.
